Dental Implants Brooklyn

Smiling woman with long, auburn hairIf you are missing teeth, you already know the impact it can have on your confidence and ability to speak and eat. But you may not be aware that missing teeth can also have a significant effect on your overall oral health. Missing teeth can cause your surrounding teeth to shift out of alignment, and may result in periodontal disease and atrophy of the jaw bone.

If you are missing any number of teeth, dental implants are an excellent option to restore function and prevent the development of further dental problems. Our practice proudly offers dental implants to our patients in Brooklyn, NY, and the surrounding area. Dr. Charles Grannum is a certified specialist in the field of prosthodontics and teaches implant dentistry techniques at a number of esteemed institutions. To find out if implants are right for you, schedule a consultation with us today. We welcome non-English speaking patients.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts surgically implanted in the jaw bone to support crowns and dentures. Placing traditional implants requires two surgeries. During the first surgery, Dr. Grannum creates an incision in the gums, places the implant in the jaw, and sutures the gums closed. Over the next three to six months, your bone will fuse to the post in a process known as osseointegration. Once you have fully healed, you will return to our office, and Dr. Grannum will once again create an incision in the gums, expose the implant, and place an abutment that will connect to the restoration.

Teeth in a Day

In some cases, if a patient is missing a single tooth, Dr. Grannum can place an implant and a restoration in just one visit. This procedure is an excellent alternative for patients who present an urgent need for tooth replacement. As a general rule, we prefer traditional implant surgery for our patients, but we will always choose the procedure that is in the patient’s best interest, and that will provide them with long-lasting and stable implants. Dr. Grannum is a Board Certified Prosthodontist, skilled in creating beautiful prostheses.

Why Choose Implants?

Dental implants offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Bone Preservation: Dental implants are the only restorative option that can actually prevent further deterioration of your jaw bone.
  • Natural Appearance and Function: Most dental implant patients report that their restoration is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, both in their look and feel.
  • Durability: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
  • Stability: Because implants are a permanent part of your mouth, they will not slip or come loose like traditional dentures can. They allow you to bite into anything, including apples and steaks, with complete confidence.

Implants can also boost your confidence in your appearance. Missing teeth can cause your face to sag or look hollow, but crowns and other prosthetics can help your face to look healthy and normal.
