Preparing for Your Treatment

When you come to our practice to learn whether a full mouth reconstruction is right for you, you will have a thorough consultation with Dr. Grannum. He will complete a full examination of your teeth, gums, and temporomandibular joints (TMJs), and will take x-rays and impressions. During this appointment, you can discuss your concerns and treatment goals, and Dr. Grannum will provide you with information to help you decide which procedures will best meet your restorative and cosmetic needs. He may also make recommendations for any initial procedures he deems necessary to ensure your gums and jawbone are healthy.

The Importance of Healthy Gums

Gum disease is a serious problem that develops when plaque and tartar are allowed to build up on the teeth. Eventually, bacteria start to develop, forming pockets in the gum and causing the gum tissue to pull away from teeth. In severe cases, sufferers may have a receding gum line, lose teeth, or even suffer from loss of bone mass in the jaw. If you have symptoms of periodontal disease, Dr. Grannum may recommend a procedure such as scaling and root planing, which uses lasers or antibiotic fibers to eradicate bacteria and restore health to your gums. More advanced cases of gum disease may require more invasive treatment like a soft tissue graft or bone graft.

Restoring Your Bite and Smile

Any number of restorative procedures can be included in a full mouth reconstruction, including root canal therapy, dental crowns and bridges, dental implants, and dentures. Dr. Grannum is a Board Certified Prosthodontist and can create beautiful restorations for you. These procedures can:

  • Repair cracks or chips
  • Restore broken or worn teeth
  • Treat cavities and decay
  • Replace missing teeth
  • Correct problems with your bite

During the planning phase of your treatment, Dr. Grannum may create a mock-up so that you can experience a preview of what you will look like following your full mouth reconstruction. Many of our patients choose to factor cosmetic treatments, like teeth whitening, into their treatment to further enhance their smile once the reconstruction is complete.
