Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance is a systematic, ongoing therapeutic regimen for patients with a history of periodontal disease, intended to preserve periodontal health and prevent disease recurrence following active periodontal therapy.

Key Components:

  1. Comprehensive assessment: Evaluation of probing depths, clinical attachment levels, bleeding on probing, tooth mobility, furcation involvement, and radiographic bone status.
  2. Supragingival and subgingival debridement: Thorough removal of plaque, calculus, and biofilm from both above and below the gingival margin.
  3. Oral hygiene reinforcement: Instruction and reinforcement of optimal home care practices.
  4. Monitoring for disease activity: Early detection of inflammation, changes in pocket depth, or other clinical indicators of recurrent disease.
  5. Recommended frequency: Typically, every 3–4 months, adjusted according to the patient’s individual risk profile and clinical response.

Objective
